Microsoft Fabric: Unified Analytics Platform

Microsoft Fabric is an analytics platform that supports end-to-end data workflows, including data ingestion, transformation, real-time stream processing, analytics, and reporting. It provides integrated experiences such as Data Engineering, Data Factory, Data Science, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Warehouse, and Databases, all operating over a shared compute and storage model.

Delivered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, Fabric uses OneLake as a centralized, logical data lake for storing and accessing data across all workloads. The OneLake Catalog provides a centralized experience for discovering, exploring, and governing data and analytics artifacts across the tenant.

Edvenswa leverages Microsoft Fabric to help organizations break down data silos, unify their analytics estate, and accelerate insight-to-action, all without managing complex underlying infrastructure. AI capabilities are built into the platform to assist with data preparation, analysis, and development tasks, reducing the need for manual service integration.

Why Microsoft Fabric Changes Everything

Traditional analytics architectures require stitching together multiple services: a data lake here, a warehouse there, separate BI tools and ML platforms. Microsoft Fabric collapses all of this into a single SaaS experience. Every workload, including Data Engineering, Data Factory, Data Science, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Warehouse, Power BI, and Fabric IQ, shares the same OneLake storage and compute layer, eliminating data movement, reducing cost, and accelerating delivery.

Role-Specific Workloads

Tailored tools for data engineers, scientists, analysts, and DBAs, each optimized for their tasks yet combinable into end-to-end solutions.

Copilot AI Assistance

Built-in Copilot assists with authoring queries, pipelines, and code, generating summaries and insights across all workloads.

Microsoft 365 Integration

Analyze and consume Fabric data directly in Excel and share through Microsoft Teams, with no exports or data movement needed.

Unified Governance via Purview

Microsoft Purview is built into Fabric for consistent security, sensitivity labels, compliance controls, and auditing enforced across tenant boundaries.

Zero-Copy Shortcuts

Instantly mount existing ADLS, Amazon S3, or Google Cloud Storage without ETL or data migration, with intelligent caching to reduce egress costs.

Microsoft Foundry Integration

Integrate prebuilt models and ML tooling for machine learning and AI scenarios, including model development, deployment, and inference.

OneLake Catalog

Centralized hub to find, explore, secure, and use Fabric items and govern the data you own across workspaces and domains.

ISV & Partner Ecosystem

Interop with OneLake, build on Fabric, or create fully custom Fabric workloads across three integration tiers for independent software vendors.

Cross-Tenant Data Sharing

Share live, governed datasets with external organizations across Microsoft Entra tenant boundaries with no data copies and governance enforced at source.

OneLake: The Foundation of Microsoft Fabric

OneLake is built into the Fabric platform with no upfront provisioning and no Azure account required. Each tenant gets one unified OneLake with a single file-system namespace that spans users, regions, and clouds. Data is organized into workspaces (like folders) and lakehouses (collections of files, folders, and tables that act as a database over a data lake), making collaboration as natural as using OneDrive in Microsoft Office.

All Fabric compute experiences, including Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Power BI, and Real-Time Intelligence, come preconfigured with OneLake as their native store with no extra setup. The Shortcut feature enables zero-copy access to external storage in Azure Data Lake Storage, Amazon S3, and Google Cloud Storage, bringing data closer to compute with intelligent caching that reduces egress costs.

Real-Time Hub: The Unification of Data Streams

The Real-Time hub is a foundational, tenant-wide location for data in motion. It provides a unified SaaS experience where users can discover, ingest, manage, and react to streaming data from every source, all in one place. It supports both streams and KQL Database tables.

Data Streams

General-purpose streaming data ingested from any application or pipeline.

Microsoft Sources

Azure Event Hubs, IoT Hub, SQL Database CDC, Cosmos DB CDC, Azure Data Explorer, PostgreSQL CDC.

Fabric Events

Workspace item events, OneLake events, and Job events generated within the Fabric platform.

Azure & External Events

Azure Blob Storage events and external events from Microsoft 365 or other cloud services.

Fabric Implements a Data Mesh Architecture

Microsoft Fabric is designed to support a data mesh, a decentralized approach where individual business domains own and manage their own data as a product. Every developer and business unit creates their own workspaces in OneLake, ingests data into lakehouses, and starts processing, analyzing, and collaborating, while centralized governance via Microsoft Purview ensures consistent security and compliance across the entire organization.
